This time, the Lady Yellowjackets won 36-30 in overtime and the Yellowjackets hammered the Pioneers by a 67-31 count.The Lady Pioneers and Lady ’Jackets shared the bottom rung in the 5A-East District standings, and the Yellowjackets switched places at the bottom (see standings and scores below).

Registration days set for ICYAA summer leagues

February 15, 2012 The first of two registration days for the Independence County Youth Athletic Association summer baseball, softball and tee-ball programs is set for Sunday, according to a news release.Registration on Sunday and Feb. 26 will be held in the First Community Bank George Ryder Community Room from 1-3 p.m.Registration forms after March 3 will be put on a waiting list. The registration fees are $65 for one child, $125 for two siblings of the same household and $170 for three of the same household.The fee for girls tee-ball players ages 3 to 4 is $35.

Three sign with Lyon College soccer teams

February 15, 2012 Lyon College recently announced the signings of Michael Chrisman, Nicholas Juncos and Victoria King to national letters of intent to attend Lyon and play soccer.Chrisman played for a New Albany High School team in New Albany, Ins., that won a sectional championship in 2008. Chrisman assisted on the winning goal in the championship game. He also played for a club team that won the Derby City Cup title in Louisville, Ky., in 2010, and an Anderson University team in 2010 that won 13 games in a row. Anderson University is in Anderson, Ind.

New coach expects Scots to continue climb in softball

February 15, 2012 The TranSouth Athletic Conference softball coaches say the Lyon College Scots will hold their position in the standings.Kristen Kolter, the Scots’ new coach, thinks they will do better.“I look at our team and I don’t see a sixth-place team,” Kolter said. “They’re just numbers, I know, but I believe when you have a new head coach mixed in with a young team you can get overlooked. I truly believe we’re better than that.”
