Pam Kitsmiller and Ron Trusty teamed to win the Baker’s Mixed Doubles Tournament championship recently at Hollywood Bowl.
Kitsmiller and Trusty rolled a 715 series, 11 pins ahead of Yvonne Satterwhite and Tim Johnson.
Rounding out the top six were: Stephanie Anderson-Keith Anderson, 698; Sheila Strain-Jeff Phillips, 679; Michelle Killian-Phillip Neel, 678; Shera Stephens-Oscar Najarrow, 677.
Twenty-nine teams competed in the annual event.

JACKSON, Tenn. — One Lyon College soccer team collected a 2-1 victory while the other battled to a 1-1 tie in TranSouth Athletic Conference openers here Tuesday night.
The Scots improved to 6-1 overall and broke a 2-match losing streak to the Union Bulldogs dating back to the 2007 season. Union fell to 1-6 overall.
All three goals came in the second half and Union’s Paul Turner scored the opener in the 60th minute on a penalty kick.

CONWAY — The Cave City Junior Cavewomen earned their first win of the season here Monday night with a 2-0 decision over Conway Christian.
Cave City won 25-15, 25-22 as Jennifer Grissom and Nikki Ford collected 11 points apiece. Rachel Woods and Brittany Coleman added eight and six, respectively.
The Junior Cavewomen are 1-1 in the conference and 1-6 overall.
Conway Christian won the senior high match 25-21, 16-25, 25-13, 25-18.

Batesville High’s junior varsity football team improved to 3-0 with a 29-22, come-from-behind victory over the Searcy Lions in Pioneer Stadium Monday night.
With Searcy leading 22-14 at halftime, quarterback Storm Tipton scored on runs of one and 38 yards in the second half, the defense put together a goal line stand and Frank Ramirez intercepted a pass to turn away another scoring threat.
In the first half, Tipton passed to Garrett Yeager for 15 yards and a TD and tailback Corbett Courtney ran nine yards for a score.

The match was tied after the home team took the first and third games 25-22 and 25-23. Lyon took the second and fourth games 26-24 and 25-23.

LA CROSSE — Led by medalist Rachel Harmon, the Izard County Lady Cougars followed up their district golf championship with the Class 2A Region 2 crown here Friday at Cooper’s Hawk.
Harmon shot a 3-over-par 75 to defeat Melbourne’s Maggie Cooper by two strokes. The Lady Bearkatz also finished second in the team standings. They shot a 332, 54 strokes back.
Greers Ferry West Side shot a 339, followed by Calico Rock (354), Buffalo Island Central (364) and Armorel (392).

RUSSELLVILLE — The Lyon College Pipers split a nonconference tri-match, winning 3-0 against Champion Baptist and losing 3-0 to Arkansas Tech, at Arkansas Tech University Saturday.
Lyon (5-11) lost to Tech in the first match 25-16, 25-17, 25-20, but bounced back to take the afternoon match against Champion Baptist 25-20, 25-12 and 25-12.
Senior Katie Beineke notched a team-high seven kills and two blocks for the Pipers in the loss. Meghann LaBorn pitched in six kills and six digs.
In the win, the Lyon freshmen were trusted with the heavy lifting.

CONWAY — Four Batesville Lady Pioneers finished in the top 15 as the 5-time defending Class 5A state champions won big at the Conway Wampus Cat Invitational here Saturday.
Sophomore Natalie Meinzer finished second, completing the 5-kilometer course at Lake Beaverfork Park in 18 minutes, 21 seconds. She finished 59 seconds behind the winner, Erika Setzler, a senior from Conway.
Melbourne’s Emily Carroll, the only other Guard-circulation area runner to compete, finished third in a time of 18:46.
