Coach Greg Brannon said the Newport Greyhounds are now being held more accountable, and we’ll see how that counts in the win and loss columns.
“The main thing we’re doing is getting our grades up,” Brannon said. “All our kids are in tutoring from 4 to 5 p.m. each day, they’re on a grading system in practice, also, keeping count of absences and times they are tardy.”
It’s working, he said.

With one Guard-circulation area junior high team playing a rare Tuesday night contest and two not opening their season until next week, Thursday night will be lighter for football than normal.
It will, however, be a big night for the only Izard County football school. The Melbourne Junior Bearkatz’ season opener with the Rose Bud Junior Ramblers is a first. This is Melbourne’s first varsity team.
The other Thursday night contest will happen in Newark where the Cedar Ridge Junior Timberwolves are scheduled to host the Walnut Ridge Junior Bobcats.
