Newspaper appeals court ruling

December 10, 2008 LITTLE ROCK (AP) - A seal on jail records involving the suspect in the death of a television anchorwoman should be lifted, a newspaper has told the state Supreme Court. The filing Tuesday by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette asks justices to overturn a ruling by Little Rock District Judge Lee Munson keeping jail roster information, visitor logs and other details about Curtis Lavelle Vance from public inspection. Munson issued a ruling Monday saying the release of those details could "irreparably compromise" Vance's chance at a fair trial.

Forgery, ID fraud charges filed

December 10, 2008 Bond has been set at $25,000 each for a man and woman charged with 16 counts each of check forgery and one count of financial identity fraud, according to an affidavit filed with the Independence County Circuit Clerk.

Assault reported; two arrested

December 10, 2008 One man was injured and two others were arrested Saturday night at Independence Inn on East Main Street, according to Independence County Deputy Bobby Moser. Moser said he was called to the assisted living center Monday night to take a report from William Henry Doyle, 51, a resident at the facility.

ATV, personal property stolen; home damaged

December 10, 2008 A suspect has been named in the theft of an all terrain vehicle from a residence at 120 Spout Springs Road Tuesday. Bert Payne told Independence County Officer Colby Markum that his red Honda Rancher 350 four-wheeler was parked at his residence when he left for work around 7:30 a.m., but was discovered missing around 3:40 p.m. by another family member.

UACCB taps 6 for student ambassadors

December 10, 2008 Two men were arrested on a traffic stop in Newark Saturday afternoon after they had reportedly stolen items from the car of a Batesville Walmart employee. A witness told police he observed two men enter a car and take a carton of Marlboro cigarettes and a blue and white striped hooded sweatshirt and then drive off in a grey Plymouth Neon.

Deputies arrest man ‘on mission’ in ceiling

December 10, 2008 MOUNTAIN HOME (AP) - Bare footprints on a toilet seat led sheriff's deputies to find a man hidden away inside a Baxter County gas station ceiling, apparently "on a mission" to steal. Jeremy J. Fleming, 34, of Midway initially refused to offer his name to sheriff's deputies after his arrest early Tuesday morning, Sgt. Bob Bushbacher said. Fleming later told deputies his name was "Jason Solo," though fingerprints later gave his identity away, Bushbacher said.
