January 15, 2009 Sims named director emeritus Noel K. Sims of Batesville has been named director emeritus of Citizens Bank. The announcement was made by the board of directors at its January meeting. The emeriti status recognizes Sims' valuable contributions to the bank's board since joining the bank in 1975, a news release states.

System ‘virtually complete’

January 15, 2009 SOUTHSIDE - The Southside Public Water Authority virtually completed a wastewater collection and treatment system in 2008, along with treating and pumping just under 1 million gallons of water a day, Manager John Richardson said.

Burglary suspect says he was hungry

January 15, 2009 Bond has been set at $75,000 for a Batesville man who said he was hungry and looking for food when he broke into homes last week, according to circuit court documents filed in Independence County. Keith E. White, 31, of 591 W. Wycough St., was arrested Friday while standing in the kitchen of a home he was allegedly burglarizing, according to a court affidavit filed by Independence County Detective Rob Leonard.

Twin cuts

January 15, 2009 SOUTHSIDE - Fairl Anderson doesn't get much time to thumb through the daily newspaper. When the door chimes, he's up and behind his barber's chair, ready for his next customer. For barbers as busy as Fairl and twin brother Hairl Anderson, the daily news will just have to wait.

City hall makeover under way

January 15, 2009 Batesville City Hall will soon be getting a makeover. The lobby of the city hall will be converted into a conference room and three offices, two of which will house Robert Herrington and Jamie Esteb, administrative clerk. As the Autocad specialist, Herrington creates maps of water and sewer lines and coordinates them with the subdivision maps, garbage routes and other city business.

The newly elected board of directors includes C.W. Barnett, C.W. Wasson, C.F. Cole, H.M. Kennerly and I.N. Barnett. Officers are C.W. January 14, 2009 Graffiti leads to felony warrant A Batesville man who wouldn't name his accomplices in a spray painting spree in the Rosie area is facing felony criminal mischief charges. According to an affidavit filed in the Independence County Circuit Court Clerk's Office, someone spray painted a River Ridge Road sign and the side of the Rosie grocery store the night of July 16, 2008.

Southside selects new superintendent

January 14, 2009 SOUTHSIDE - Southside School District will have a new superintendent this fall, but he is a familiar face. Roger Rich, who has been assistant superintendent at Southside for eight years, will replace Superintendent Dan Foley, who is retiring after 20 years with the district.
