Woman nabbed in salon theft

December 19, 2008 A former Fayetteville woman was arrested Thursday afternoon for reportedly stealing money from one beauty salon, and attempting to steal from another. Detective Alan Cockrill with the Independence County Sheriff's Office said Dawn Carter, 30, was arrested after she reportedly tried to steal money from The Hair Loft beauty salon at 1370 Neeley St.

Arrests made in break-ins

December 19, 2008 Two people are in custody and possibly facing federal charges for their alleged part in a rash of multi-county post office break-ins. Jimmy Hooper, 29, and his wife Christa Hooper, 23, who live at 2560 E. Main St. were arrested Thursday following an extensive investigation by Independence, Sharp, Stone and Fulton County authorities.

Missing woman not found in pond

December 19, 2008 NEWARK - A small farm pond off Fourth Street in Newark does not contain the body of a woman who has been missing for a week. Independence County authorities said this morning they did not find the body of 31-year-old Jennye L. Davis, who disappeared in the area near the pond on Dec. 12.

Walmart heads up Shop With A Cop

December 19, 2008 A total of 51 children turned out for the Shop With a Cop night after Walmart teamed up with the Independence County Sheriff's Office for Thursday evening's event. Batesville Walmart store manager Brenda Bullard and Sheriff Keith Bowers paired 51 area children up with local police, fire and emergency medical personnel for some Christmas shopping.

Music studio holds recital

December 18, 2008 Saturday evening Weston Music Studio celebrated the coming holiday season with a recital featuring Christmas and "Teamwork." On stage in Independence Hall on the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville campus, 47 performers grouped mostly in small piano duet teams, and vocal duos, trios and quartets, performed for a large community audience of family and friends.
