The city of Louisville is scrapping plans to use the iconic Dr. Seuss village and characters as part of its annual Christmas display after receiving a cease and desist letter from Dr. Seuss Enterprises.

Elementary principal outlines activities

November 25, 2008 Central Elementary has had an active fall. We added kindergarten and sixth grade to our campus which brought our enrollment up to 308 students. The month of October was especially busy for our fifth- and sixth-grade students. The first week of October, the fifth grade made its second trip to Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala. Our students participated in the PATHFINDER Space Camp curriculum. PATHFINDER is a three-day program filled with space exploratory history, simulation of a shuttle mission, museum study, 3-D movie about travel to Mars, rocket building and firing, and much, much more.

Southside Key Club recaps year for Batesville Kiwanis

November 25, 2008 Southside Key Club president Natasha Matthews presided over the Batesville Kiwanis Club on Friday, while other Southside Key Club members gave brief presentations about the club and its projects. Matthews spoke about summer projects, saying the members helped collect tickets at the gate of the Independence County Fair. Another summer project was making up bags of items that might be helpful to new students at Southside schools. They also helped with the White River Water Carnival pageants held at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville.
