Canada lottery reported to be scam

December 23, 2008 According to a letter he received recently, Charles Farrier of Batesville is one of 31 international winners who will share $4 million in the De-Lotto North American Sweepstakes Lottery On Shoppers. Farriers portion is reported to be $125,000, according to the letter from Ontario, Canada. A check from Metro Rewards & Trust of Sioux City, Iowa was also included for payment of applicable government taxes on the winnings.

Hearing set for paper’s request to open records

December 23, 2008 LITTLE ROCK (AP) - A Pulaski County circuit judge has set a Jan. 8 hearing to consider a newspaper's request to unseal the jail records of the man accused of killing TV anchorwoman Anne Pressly. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette sued after Little Rock District Judge Lee Munson sealed the jail records of Curtis Lavelle Vance, who is charged with capital murder in the October death of Pressly. The newspaper had appealed that decision to the Arkansas Supreme Court, and last week the high court found that the appeal should be heard in circuit court first.
