December 10, 2008 When the Steinway Piano Company of New York was looking for a technician to fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico to work on 42 baby grand pianos, Cave City native Dan McSpadden was at the top of the list. McSpadden leaves Sunday to join four other hand-picked technicians in San Juan to prepare and synthesize the concert pianos used by performers at the Conservatory in San Juan.

Student critical after car wreck

December 10, 2008 BROCKWELL - When the news broke that a high school student at Izard County Consolidated was seriously injured in a car accident on her way to school, the texting for prayers began. Kailey Moss, an 11th-grade student, is in critical condition at Arkansas Children's Hospital, according to ICC Superintendent Fred Walker.

December 10, 2008 On a night filled with mixed emotion by organizers, the Independence County special election for a quarter-cent economic development sales tax passed by nearly a two-to-one margin. Unofficial tallies from the election commission put the numbers at 1,674 votes in favor (66 percent) and 855 against (34 percent).
