Duane Grice said when he arrived at the Newark eatery he went inside and found a man leaning against the counter talking to an employee about buying cookies.

Santa suit, underwear target of alleged shoplifter

December 17, 2008 Thong underwear and a Santa suit were among items reportedly shoplifted by a Newport woman at Walmart Wednesday afternoon. Store personnel called the police on Jane K. Perkins, 23, after she reportedly loaded a shopping cart with three storage boxes, a sweatshirt, floral bath box, a pair of panties, a thong and a Santa suit and tried to leave the store without paying.

Three jailed after near crash with cop car

December 17, 2008 An ordinary day for Independence County Deputy Johnny Byler went downhill fast when a car nearly hit him head-on Sunday morning. Byler said he was driving north on Davis Lane in west Batesville around 11 a.m. when a car turned out of Davis Lane Trailer Park onto Davis Lane so fast it came across the center line and forced him to take to the ditch to avoid a crash.

Police plan pond dive in search for missing woman

December 17, 2008 Police and family members say they have no new clues regarding the disappearance of a Newark woman Friday, according to Lt. Brenda Bittle with the Independence County Sheriff's Office. Jennye L. Davis, 31, was living with her parents at 515 E. Fourth St. when she disappeared.
