April 9, 2009 SAN ANTONIO — Air Force Airman 1st Class Ross A. Flood has arrived for duty at Little Rock Air Force Base.Flood, a maintenance management analysis apprentice, is assigned to the 19th Maintenance Squadron.He is the son of Beverly D. Lampkin of Batesville and Steve G. Flood of Steele, Mo. He is a 2002 graduate of Batesville High School.

Easter egg hunts set for Saturday

April 9, 2009 Several area Easter egg hunts have been planned for this weekend:• A community Easter egg hunt will start at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Desha Community Park; the activity is being provided by Southside Assembly of God.There will be skits, prizes for the most eggs found, refreshments, special prize eggs and more. April 9, 2009 Bake sales to be SaturdayTwo area churches will be sponsoring bake sales Saturday, and both will feature a wide variety of Easter desserts.Southside United Methodist Church will have a bake sale from 9 to 11 a.m. All proceeds will go to the March of Dimes.The church is located on Magnolia Street, off Highway 167 across from Southside schools.Also, Desha United Methodist Church will have a sale from noon to 4 p.m.The church is located at 145 Jamestown Road. Church to host open house

Church begins internship

April 9, 2009 Jubilee Family Church in Batesville has started an internship program, according to a news release. Jonathan Harrell comes to the church via the New Life Drama Company.  Harrell has traveled and ministered all over the country for the past three years with the drama company and has ministered in Batesville on multiple occasions before interning at Jubilee.  The son of Allen and Catherine Harrell, he grew up in Georgia and has eight siblings.  For more information, call the church office at (870) 793-9124.

Special church services slated

April 9, 2009 Some area churches are conducting special Easter services this week.• Cedar Grove United Methodist Church will celebrate Holy Week with a silent prayer and meditation service from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday.The church will remain in darkness until Sunday morning, when Easter will be celebrated with a service at 9:30 a.m.An Easter egg hunt and celebration for children will follow.The church is located on Highway 87 West between Pleasant Plains and Floral.

April 9, 2009 A minor accident with no injuries led to a Batesville woman’s arrest on multiple charges Saturday afternoon.Independence County Deputy Ernie Gillihan was dispatched to the rear-end accident at Sidney and Harrison streets around 5 p.m. and talked with Crystal Kimmerling, the driver whose car had been struck in the rear.

UACCB meets need with program

April 9, 2009 To compete in today’s highly technical and economically challenging world more and more adults are returning to school.The UACCB Adult Education Department provides opportunities to students that wish to further their education through GED programs, English as a second language class for non-English speakers, and job advancement or basic skills preparation for college enrollment.Longtime educator Dee Webb is the adult education instructor at one of UACCB’s newest sites this spring at the Bethesda Community Center.

JPs contribute to historic home

April 9, 2009 MELBOURNE — Justices of the peace Tuesday evening added to a growing fund to help move and restore the historic Trimble house, which some say is the oldest building in the state of Arkansas.Last month, the quorum court discussed a funding request, but it was tabled so the finance committee could meet and discuss it.JP James Elbert recommended the county donate $1,000 to the cabin project, and the justices approved it.
