Izard authorities formalize drug charges against two

April 21, 2009 MELBOURNE — Drug charges have been formalized against two men who were arrested April 3 and placed on an investigative hold, Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence said.Rodney Holt Baker, 28, of Mount Pleasant was charged with possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use. Both are class C felonies.

Two charged in police pursuit case

April 21, 2009 Two men involved in a high speed police pursuit on April 6 are facing charges ranging from felony fleeing to misdemeanor driving on a suspended driver’s license.The charges were listed in an Independence County Circuit Court affidavit filed by sheriff’s Lt. Brenda Bittle.The charges stem from the incident in which members of the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force task force attempted to stop Adron M. Brown in the Pfeiffer area on a warrant and he fled from them in a white GMC pickup truck.

Two hired at local community college

April 21, 2009 The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville has hired a new instructor and an assistant financial aid director.Gina Bachman has been hired to teach in the licensed practical nursing program.Bachman said she has always been fascinated by nursing. “Even as a child I can remember helping take care of my grandmother — I guess my desire for nursing started there.”With a compassion for people tugging at her heart, Bachman’s desire to become a nurse continued to grow.

SCMC gets technological makeover

April 21, 2009 White River Health System Foundation received notification from the United States Department of Agriculture office of Rural Development of a $50,000 grant to benefit Stone County Medical Center. The grant will be used to upgrade SCMC’s information technology system, providing a gateway to the implementation of electronic medical records technology.

Southside to host fundraising walk

April 21, 2009 With the belief that one day all babies will be born healthy, supporters of the March of Dimes organization will be hitting the pavement, rain or shine, Saturday.The Southside High School track will be host again to March for Babies, with a children’s carnival beginning at 8:30 a.m. Registration is scheduled for 9, followed by team pictures at 9:30. Participants will begin walking at 10.
