July 21, 2009 Charlotte EHCCHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Extension Homemakers Club met recently at the home of Ann Mobley, with four members and one visitor present. The meeting started with some funny poems of everyday life, followed by the program, “Seeing the world through your grandchildren’s eyes.” Refreshments included crackers and Southwestern cheese dip made from goat cheese.

Lewallen leaves school board

July 21, 2009 The Batesville School Board said goodbye to one member and welcomed another at its regular meeting Monday in the District Administration Office.“Ron has simply said he appreciates his association with the Batesville School Board the last 14 years and is proud of the accomplishments that have been made in that time,” Superintendent Ted Hall said of the letter of resignation submitted by Ron Lewallen. “Ron said it’s an honor and a privilege to have served with this board.”

Graduate aims to pay it forward

July 21, 2009 James Loy is something of an expert on rehab. A former addict, he’s seen more than his fair share of the inside of various rehabs before finally finding one that worked.Now, the John 3:16 Ministries graduate has plans to open a spiritual-based boot camp at his hometown in Conway.———Loy said he’d heard about John 3:16 through Ricky and Marsha Rawls during a Celebrate Recovery class in Conway. Marsha Rawls’ brother, Mark Trucks, is a board member at John 3:16.

Death probe continues

July 21, 2009 WALNUT RIDGE — Lawrence County authorities say no bullet casing or other evidence was found near the house where an 11-year-old boy was shot in the head Saturday.The boy, Jace Freeman — who would have turned 12 on Thursday — died about 18 hours later at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.Family members also told investigators no firearms were in the house.The bullet of an unknown caliber struck Jace near the right temple while he was playing with his 13-year-old brother, Dyllon, in their grandmother’s yard at 1645 S. Highway 115, Smithville.

Body found

July 21, 2009 HARDY — The body of a missing man on Spring River was spotted from a helicopter Monday as it was arriving to assist in the search.The helicopter was flying to the main search area when the crew spotted the body of 54-year-old Steve McPherson down river from the search area, according to Hardy Police Chief Ernie Rose.McPherson was reported missing Saturday during a float trip on the river. Authorities said McPherson either fell into the river or went in on his own.

Harmonica Workshop planned
