Izard man arrested for rape of teen girl

November 21, 2008 MELBOURNE - A Pineville man has been charged with the rape of a 13-year-old girl, Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence said in a news release. Lawrence said Wesley Grant Bray, 18, is accused of having sex with the girl on Nov. 6.

West sues HRA

November 21, 2008 A former chief of Health Resources of Arkansas is suing his old employer and its board chairman, Tommy Mitchum, for wrongful discharge, breach of contract and defamation. In a civil lawsuit filed in Independence County Circuit Court, Jim West asks for not less than a $100,000 judgment against HRA and Mitchum, plus reinstatement to his job, as well as back pay, lost benefits and attorney's fees.

HSU head: No injuries in shooting

November 20, 2008 ARKADELPHIA (AP) - The president of Henderson State University says there are no reports of injury after a single gunshot was fired toward a group of students near his campus. President Charles L. Welch told Little Rock television station KATV that the shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot at nearby Ouachita Baptist University. KATV reported that the students were apparently headed to a Henderson State dormitory.
