Women’s shelter requesting food, other items

December 3, 2008 Family Violence Prevention Inc. is currently experiencing a food shortage at the Save Haven shelter. "We have had a lot of women and children in the Shelter lately and as a result have used up most of our food budget for the year," said executive director Twyliah Acklin.

Local I.O.O.F. lodge wins higher education award

December 3, 2008 JAMESTOWN - The Jamestown Lodge No. 352 of the International Order of Odd Fellows was notified over the weekend that it won an international award, Noble Grand Master Vernon Inman said. The lodge won the International Order of Odd Fellows Award to Higher Education and was mailed a certificate bearing the signatures of I.O.O.F. Sovereign Grand Master Richard S. Kim and Ruth M. Battaglia, president of the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies.

Recipients of U.N. trips chosen

December 3, 2008 JAMESTOWN - Two local students will be traveling to Philadelphia, New York and Ontario, Canada, next summer, courtesy of the Jamestown Lodge No. 352 of the International Order of Odd Fellows. They will also visit the Gettysburg Civil War battlefield national park, the Smithsonian Institution and Niagara Falls. A visit to the Statue of Liberty and attending a Broadway play are also on the agenda.
