Geologist sees no evidence drilling causes earthquakes

March 9, 2010 CONWAY (AP) — An Arkansas Geological Survey geologist says there is no convincing evidence that recent earthquakes in the Greenbrier area are caused by natural gas exploration and drilling.Several small earthquakes have been recorded, and sometimes felt, in the Greenbrier area during the last few months.“Right now, the majority of the microtremors that we’ve seen are much deeper than any of the production wells nearby,” AGS geohazards supervisor Scott Ausbrooks said Monday. “At this time, we don’t see a causal relationship between the drilling and the earthquakes.”

Jazz concert to feature local entertainers

March 9, 2010 CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Spring River Performing Arts will present a “Jazz of Your Life” concert with the Ozark Jazz Orchestra at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Omaha Center in Cherokee Village. The group features trumpeter Gary Gazaway, vocalist Lisa Ahia, pianist Joy Sanford, violinist Tim Crouch, bassist Tom Mason, and percussionist Darren Novotny. They will perform popular jazz standards as well as selections from The Great American Songbook.

Web company gets awards

March 9, 2010 A Batesville based Web development and hosting company brought home multiple awards at the Northeast Arkansas American Advertising Federation ADDY awards gala in Jonesboro.  Pleth, LLC, won gold awards for the White River Solid Waste Management District as well as for its own site; silver for the White River Area Agency on Aging and Caring Hands Hospice sites; and bronze for the Cushman Forest Products Inc. and for the Pleth logo and stationary package design. Pleth will move on to district competition.

March 9, 2010 Tim McCall of Jonesboro has been promoted to group marketing representative for Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Northeast regional office, according to Bill Brown, regional executive.McCall’s office is headquartered in Jonesboro and serves 17 counties, among them Independence, Fulton, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Sharp and Stone. In his new role, McCall is accountable for the sales and servicing health and dental insurance products, life, disability and other insurance products for Arkansas Blue Cross and its affiliate companies, according to a press release.
