Foundation funds mammograms

Komen for the Cure Foundation and White River Health System (WRHS). Sleeping man in parked car arrested for drunk driving

April 13, 2010 MELBOURNE — A man sleeping in a parked car was arrested for drunk driving, according to Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence.The sheriff’s department was called to the Antioch Baptist Church where it was reported that a suspicious vehicle was parked. Upon arrival, deputies saw a small truck with damage to the vehicle. A man later identified as Charles Bohannan Jr., 47, of Mount Pleasant was asleep in the driver’s seat.

State votes to dissolve Twin Rivers, shutter Humphrey charter school

April 13, 2010 LITTLE ROCK — School of Excellence students will have to finish up the remainder of the year elsewhere after the state Board of Education unanimously voted Monday to shutter the troubled Humphrey charter school.The Twin Rivers School district will also be closed, forced into a merger with several other districts.Vicky Wilson, who was appointed interim director of the school in January, told the board a month ago that the two-year-old school was struggling to pay bills and expected to be nearly $80,000 in debt by the end of the school year.

Prostitution ad results in arrest

April 13, 2010 SEARCY — A two-week investigation into online prostitution has led to the arrest of a Thida man and Searcy woman.According to the White County Sheriff’s Department, Rebecca Dunavan of Searcy and David Patrick of Thida were arrested on prostitution charges after placing an ad on Craigslist.

Agnos Cemetery cleanup set

April 13, 2010 AGNOS — A cleanup day is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday at Agnos Cemetery west of Ash Flat, said Faye Bishop, secretary-treasurer of the Agnos Cemetery Association. The rain date is 8 a.m. April 24. Those attending are asked to bring tools.Donations for maintenance of the cemetery are also needed, Bishop said.
