December 24, 2008 San Antonio - Air Force Airman Clancy H. Williams has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.

Tuesday’s thin coating of ice surprises Arkansans

December 24, 2008 LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Some central Arkansas motorists were surprised Tuesday morning by a thin coating of ice that didn't show up until most commuters were on their way to work or at their desks. A few of those still on the road when the light rain started turning to ice went careening into other cars or ditches.

Air travel down in state this holiday season

December 24, 2008 LITTLE ROCK. (AP) - Airports in Little Rock and northwest Arkansas say fewer people are traveling by air this holiday season, with double-digit decreases projected at both airports. The Little Rock National Airport expects 99,079 passengers to go through the airport during the Christmas and New Year's period, according to advanced bookings. During the same time last year, 118,289 people traveled through the airport.

Rare dolls on exhibit at Arkansas Capitol

December 24, 2008 LITTLE ROCK (AP) - What child wouldn't want his or her very own Douglas MacArthur doll? Douglas MacArthur, the original G.I. Joe, is on display at the Arkansas State Capitol at Little Rock. The doll, c. 1942, is on loan from the Jefferson County Historical Museum.

Jan. 23 trial date set for Mitchell Johnson

December 24, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE (AP) - Another court date has been scheduled for Jonesboro school shooter Mitchell Johnson. Johnson, 24, faces a charge of fraudulently using a stolen credit card at a Fayetteville Burger King. Trial is set for Jan. 23.

Arts council celebrates 20 years

December 24, 2008 The Batesville Area Arts Council recently celebrated 20 years with an open house and fundraiser. The Dec. 12 open house was held during a "second Friday of the month" promotion sponsored by downtown Batesville merchants.

Investigators still working on separate fires

December 24, 2008 Two fires in east Batesville early Tuesday morning that destroyed one family's home and the car of another were not the result of bombings or racial hate crimes, said Lt. Brenda Bittle of the Independence County Sheriff's Office.

Arrest stops crime spree in Sharp Co.
