His word was his bond.
That’s what family and friends said about Donnie Bryant of Batesville, who died Saturday at 89.
Son Thomas “Tommy” Bryant said those words were his father’s favorite statement, and Tommy, at a young age, learned exactly what the elder Bryant meant by them the day Tommy made a mistake on an order at the Bryant family’s lumber yard.

Logan and Betty Branscum celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary over the weekend with family and friends.
Betty Allen and Logan Branscum were married July 21, 1961, in an Allen Chapel home. The Rev. H.A. Lewis officiated.
Mr. Branscum worked at National Automotive Parts Association as a machinist for more than 30 years. Mrs. Branscum retired from Lyon College after 25 years of service.
MOUNTAIN VIEW — Blanchard Springs Caverns will offer the last of its summer interpretive activities at the Blanchard Springs Recreation Area this week.
The programs are held at or near the amphitheater, located near the picnic area at the base of Sandfield Bluff.
This week’s topic is insects, and programs are:
• 8:30 p.m. Wednesday — Eyewitness: Insect. Insects are usually avoided and ignored. Safely examine the wonders of the insect world through close photography and graphics that reveal insects’ true importance.
MOUNTAIN VIEW — The Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View is celebrating its 2011 Tribute to Grandpa Jones by hosting the Whites on Friday and the Quebe Sisters Band on Saturday. Both concerts are at 7 p.m.
Ramona Jones and Family will also perform both nights.

MELBOURNE — Ozarka College in Melbourne will give the GED Test at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 7 and 14 in Room 516 of the Wyth Duke Adult Education Building.
