  • Time to change

    Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, and the public is reminded to change its clocks.
    DST begins for most of the United States at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday of March. Time reverts to standard time at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time.
    Fire officials also say this is a good time to change batteries in smoke detectors.

  • Chain saw safety program scheduled

    ASH FLAT — A Chain Saw Safety Program will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ozarka auditorium on the Ash flat Campus, according to Sharp County Conservation District officials. It continues until 3 p.m.
    Dana Hinkley, president of Logger Rescue Inc. and a member of the Stihl chain saw advisory team for logging safety instruction, will be the primary presenter.

    NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Jacquelyn Smith, 75, of North Little Rock died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, in North Little Rock.
    Born Dec. 12, 1933, in Melbourne, she was the daughter of Eldridge A. and Lucy Maxine Cornelius Smith. She was a homemaker and a caregiver. She enjoyed her dog, embroidering and making quilts for special occasions. She was a member of Levy Baptist Church.
    Survivors include three sisters, Laverne Atwood of Grand Rapids, Mich., Hazel Pinkston of Wenatchee, Wash., and Fayna Davidson of North Little Rock; and several nephews and nieces.

    MELBOURNE — Alice Marie Struble Wells, 69, of Melbourne died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, in Calico Rock.

    Born Feb. 18, 1929, in Janesville, Wis., he was the son of Ray and Nellie Buck. He married Norma J. Collins on Nov. 27, 1948. He retired from General Motors of Janesville, Wis., as a steam engineer in 1979.
