  • Medicated driver faces several charges

    Arrested for being under the influence of drugs as he drove home from the hospital, a Batesville man is scheduled to answer to the charge in a court appearance on April 22, according to a report by Independence County Deputy Patrick Collins.
    Melvin Barraco, 55, of Desha was stopped on Lawrence Street around 3:45 p.m. Monday after Collins reportedly saw him run off the right side of the roadway.

  • Mountain View man charged with DWI

    MELBOURNE — A Mountain View man was arrested early Sunday morning following a traffic stop.
    Dominic Nelson, 35, was seen near the intersection of highways 5 and 56 driving in a suspicious manner around 1 a.m., Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence said.
    Nelson was later charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a vehicle without insurance and driving on a suspended license. While being booked into the Izard County jail, Nelson was charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test.

    Born Oct. 30, 1948, she was the daughter of Buddy Wyatt and Gracie Etter Harris. She was united in marriage to William Beck in McKinney, Texas. She was a member of Myron Community Church.
    Survivors include her husband, William Beck; four sons, Ricky Beck, Roy Lee Beck and Eric Beck, all of Brockwell, and Mickey Beck of Texas; a daughter, Misty Beck of Brockwell; two sisters, Linda Kay Thomas of Texas and Robbie Gail Leonard of Brockwell; and six grandchildren.

  • Weekend alcohol, drug arrests made

    A 51-year-old Batesville man is facing several charges following a traffic stop for driving too slow and on a flat tire around 1:45 a.m. Sunday.
    Independence County Deputy Michael Darr said he stopped Michael L. Musser near the recycling plant on Highway 167 and when he approached he noticed the rear driver’s side tire was gone and the truck was being driven on the rim.
    Darr said when he pointed out the flat to Musser, he reportedly replied, “Yes sir, I am aware it is flat; I just thought I could make it home because I didn’t want to change it.”
