    ASH FLAT – With about 40 percent of its area still without power, the City of Hardy has instituted a dusk to dawn curfew until further notice, Mayor Nina Thornton said.

    People buying generators in the hopes FEMA will reimburse them for the cost may be in for an unhappy surprise.
    Glen Willis, director of the Independence County Office of Emergency Management, said the Federal Emergency Management Agency is in the process of doing "preliminary assessments" in the different counties affected by last week's ice storm, but right now it is not doing any individual assistance programs.

  • Man shot to death in domestic dispute

    CAVE CITY – A domestic disturbance in Cave City turned deadly about 9:23 p.m. Saturday when Vernon "J.W." Humphries was shot in the chest with a .40-caliber pistol.
    The alleged assailant may face a murder charge, authorities said.
