Furniture store changes location
By looking at Factory Return Outlet’s showroom and all the displays of furnishings, one would never guess that owner David Wilkins didn’t have a clue about the furniture business when he bought it five years ago.
Now, the furniture store has moved to a new location on Harrison Street and held its grand opening Thursday. -
Southside says ‘go’ to college
SOUTHSIDE — Going to college can be the difference in a satisfying career of doing what you want to do and working at a job that merely pays the bills. That’s the message students at Southside Schools will receive as part of Say Go College Week, which began Monday.
The program is being presented by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education to raise awareness of the value and importance of post-secondary education. -
Charles Massey
Charles Wayne Massey, 87, of Batesville died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, in a Batesville hospital.
Born Nov. 26, 1924, at Locust Grove, he was the son of Ludie and Margie Webb Massey.
He retired from Clark Equipment in Battle Creek, Mich., where he had worked for 32 years. He enjoyed little children and handing out candy to them, fishing and pheasant hunting. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Batesville. -
Jimmie Sexton
LITTLE ROCK — Jimmie Neil Seery Sexton, 79, of Little Rock died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Little Rock.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Oaklawn Cemetery at Batesville with Paul Seay officiating. Arrangements are by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.

Sue Sandy
CAVE CITY — Sue Sandy, 90, of Cave City died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, in a Cave City nursing home.
Born March 18, 1921, at Steele, Mo., she was the daughter of Ferlon and Winnie Bradford Lindsey. She had worked for J.K. Southerland and GenCorp Automotive, both in Batesville. She enjoyed her family, gardening and flowers. She was a lifetime member of North Heights Church of Christ in Batesville. -
Concert chorale to perform in LR
The Lyon College Concert Chorale will perform Beethoven’s Ode to Joy at 8 p.m. Feb. 25 and at 3 p.m. Feb. 26 at Robinson Center Music Hall in Little Rock. The Lyon Concert Chorale will be combined with the choirs of several other Arkansas colleges and universities to present Beethoven’s masterwork with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Philip Mann.

Diabetes group plans program
The University of Arkansas of Medical Sciences, Area Health Education Center’s North Central Diabetes Center will hold its monthly support group at noon Thursday at the Batesville Chamber of Commerce.
Registered nurse Yolonda Reed will present the program “Learning to make good choices with diabetes.” The chamber is located at 409 Vine St. and is open to the public. For more information call (870) 698-9992. -
Driver safety class offered
AARP will host a driver safety class beginning at 7:59 a.m. Feb. 25 at First Community Bank, located at 1325 Harrison St. in Batesville. No test will be given.
A discount on vehicle insurance will be allowed for those 55 and older taking the class.

Iwo Jima shipmates reunion set
HAMPTON, Va. — A reunion for members of the USS Iowa Jima Shipmates Organization has been set for June 6-10, 2012, said Robert G. McAnally, executive director.
The reunion is for “all ships company and embarked Navy and Marine Corps personnel … USS Iwo Jima (LPH2/LHD7) Shipmates Organization” members, he said.
The reunion will be at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Tysons Corner, McLean, Va. Those planning to attend will need to provide the following information: name, address, organization membership certification and membership number. -
MITM plans to celebrate with 6-year reunion show
HORSESHOE BEND — Horseshoe Bend Theatre’s Music in the Mountains Show will kick off the 2012 season with a Six Year Anniversary Show.
