  • Literacy Project tutor training is Sunday

    The Ozark Foothills Literacy Project will hold a tutor training workshop at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Jubilee Family Church, located at 45 Thunderbird Drive in Batesville.
    Volunteer tutors are matched with adult students who are learning to read or who are learning English. Tutors meet with their student for two hours each week at a time and public location of their choosing.

  • Prayer shawl group to meet

    BETHESDA — The prayer shawl knitting/crotcheting group meets every Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bethesda Campground Methodist Church. Refreshments are served, and all are welcome, according to Joyce Williams.
    Williams also offers free knitting and crochet lessons. Besides making prayer shawls, the group also makes hats for Arkansas Children’s Hospital and scarves for Special Olympics.

    MOUNTAIN HOME — A Mountain View man was arrested after a Baptist church reported its checkbook stolen and checks written at local liquor stores.
    Brandon Elmo Massey, 24, was arrested Friday relating to the burglary of the First Baptist Church in Big Flat that occurred between Dec. 11 and Dec. 14, Baxter County Sheriff John F. Montgomery said.
