Mitchell Gardner and Emily Perrin of Newark have announced the birth of a daughter at White River Medical Center on Jan. 16, 2012. The baby weighed 4 pounds, 13 ounces and has been named MaKenzee Brooke Gardner.
Grandparents of the child are Randall and Deborah Gardner, Beth Cain and Wayne Holder.
Great-grandparents are Elizabeth Gardner, Carol Slater and Bobby and Diane Cain. -

Jonathan and Sarah Williams of Highland have announced the birth of a daughter at White River Medical Center on Jan. 17, 2012. The baby weighed 9 pounds, 12.8 ounces and has been named Marie Elisabeth Williams.
Grandparents of the child are Mike and Peg Stanley of Highland and Bill and Sherry Williams of Monterrey, Mexico. -

Zachary Jahrling and Erika Mullins of Mountain View have announced the birth of a son at White River Medical Center on Jan. 17, 2012. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 2.3 ounces and has been named Jayden Joe Jahrling.

Cossey family benefit auction planned
NEWARK — A benefit auction is being planned for the Brandon and Brook Cossey family of Newark for expenses incurred in the loss of their 5-month-old son, William Blain Cossey, on Dec. 29, 2011.
A live and silent auction will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Newark Elementary School cafeteria. -
Literacy Project tutor training is Sunday
The Ozark Foothills Literacy Project will hold a tutor training workshop at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Jubilee Family Church, located at 45 Thunderbird Drive in Batesville.
Volunteer tutors are matched with adult students who are learning to read or who are learning English. Tutors meet with their student for two hours each week at a time and public location of their choosing. -
Welding class to be offered at Ozarka
MELBOURNE — Ozarka College at Melbourne will offer a beginning welding class starting Jan. 24 as part of its continuing education program.
The class will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. for three weeks. The cost to attend the classes is $150. -
Prayer shawl group to meet
BETHESDA — The prayer shawl knitting/crotcheting group meets every Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bethesda Campground Methodist Church. Refreshments are served, and all are welcome, according to Joyce Williams.
Williams also offers free knitting and crochet lessons. Besides making prayer shawls, the group also makes hats for Arkansas Children’s Hospital and scarves for Special Olympics. -
“Why commemorate the Civil War” seminar to be held at Old State House
LITTLE ROCK — The Old State House Museum will host its annual Civil War seminar titled “Why Commemorate the Civil War?” from 9:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 28. Doors will open at 9.

Arrest made for forging checks
MOUNTAIN HOME — A Mountain View man was arrested after a Baptist church reported its checkbook stolen and checks written at local liquor stores.
Brandon Elmo Massey, 24, was arrested Friday relating to the burglary of the First Baptist Church in Big Flat that occurred between Dec. 11 and Dec. 14, Baxter County Sheriff John F. Montgomery said. -

SEABROOK, Texas — Glendene Milligan Green, 85, of Seabrook, Texas, died Jan. 11, 2012, at her home.
Born July 25, 1926, in the Cave Creek community, she was the daughter of Elbe and Lilly Bevans Milligan. She was of the Methodist faith. -
David Milligan
David F. Milligan, 59, of Batesville died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at his home.
Born Jan. 29, 1952, at Batesville, he was the son of J.B. and Jessie Bridgman Milligan. He had worked in retail sales and was an avid Razorbacks fan. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
