  • Christmas play is tonight

    First Church of Batesville will present “A Journey Begins” at 7 tonight and at 6 p.m. Sunday.
    The play tells the Christmas story as seen through the eyes of three children who know little if anything about Jesus. Noticing a sign announcing a dress rehearsal for a church’s annual Christmas play, the children decide to go inside and disrupt it. Those attending will learn whether they will succeed or if their mischief will lead them on a new journey.
    The church is located at 240 White Drive.

  • Sharp JPs to shuffle funds

    ASH FLAT — The Sharp County Quorum Court will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the county courthouse in Ash Flat to shuffle money within the 2011 budget to make specific line items match up more closely with actual expenditures, said County Judge Larry Brown.
    The JPs will also consider an ordinance to officially change names of titles of some employees and will review written monthly reports from elected officials.

  • Strawberry man jailed on charges

    WALNUT RIDGE — A Strawberry man was arrested Wednesday on two counts of theft of property by deception and for violation of Arkansas hot check law, said Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson.
    The arrest of 45-year-old Richard Sullivan came after two Lynn area residents reported they had been approached by Sullivan to install heat and air units; both residents paid for the units but they were never installed.
