Black Friday: Shoppers flock for deals
For many the Thanksgiving holiday is as much about the shopping as it is about the turkey and dressing.
Many make what has become known as Black Friday a family tradition, getting up early, sometimes even the night before, in hopes of snagging a deal. For others it’s a first-time experience.
For many store employees, however, preparations for Black Friday — when retailers hope to make enough sales to put themselves “into the black” — begin long before the lines form and sales begin. -
’Horns ruin Aggies’ exit from Big 12
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — This is not the goodbye Texas A&M envisioned.
Justin Tucker kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give the Longhorns a 27-25 victory over Texas A&M on Thursday night in the likely end of a more than century-old rivalry.
“This is by far the most painful loss I’ve had since I’ve been here,” Texas A&M safety Trent Hunter said. “It’s one of those things that we’re going to have to live with for a while since Texas and Texas A&M aren’t playing again.” -
Harbaughs move on after historic tilt
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Harbaugh brothers met in the middle of the field, hugged, expressed their love for each other and headed off in opposite directions.
After their much-anticipated, oft-analyzed and historic confrontation was over, John and Jim Harbaugh expressed gratitude over having the opportunity to face each other on Thanksgiving.
John was just little bit happier, of course, because his Baltimore Ravens beat Jim’s San Francisco 49ers 16-6 Thursday night. -
8K race added to half marathon
A little something extra has been added to the Christmas Half Marathon, an annual free event on the running calendar.
In addition to the half marathon, an 8-kilometer race will run at the same time on Dec. 10, according to a news release from Corie Durham.
The event is set to start at 9 a.m. The start/finish line is located in front of the Fellowship Bible Church, formerly the site of the Landers Theatre, on Main Street. -
Edward Jones Panthers, Lifeplus Titans collect youth football crowns
The Edward Jones Panthers and the Lifeplus Titans won the Kiwanis Youth Football League championships this week.
Monday night, the Titans defeated the Citizens Bank Raiders 6-0 in overtime to take home the AFC title. Tuesday night, the Panthers defeated the First Community Bank Cowboys 6-0 to win the NFC title. Both games were played in Pioneer Stadium.
League play began in October with 156 players and five teams in each conference. This was the first year playoff games were played at night. -
