Weather delays Batesville Motor Speedway
LOCUST GROVE — The running of the third annual Rockhard Powder Coating Front-wheel Drive Special has been moved to Sept. 2 at Batesville Motor Speedway.
The Rockhard and other BMS points races were postponed due to inclement weather Friday night, according to speedway owner Mooney Starr.
Activities for the 19th annual Comp Cams Topless 100 are set to begin on Thursday -
McWilliams joins Ozarka
MELBOURNE — Ozarka College has announced Hannah McWilliams as its new Development/Alumni Relations Officer.
She will work as part of the college’s advancement department and is active in all foundation board and Ozarka activities, according to a news release.
McWilliams began her college career as a concurrent student at Ozarka College where she earned 44 credit hours before graduating from Melbourne High School in 2006. -
Betty Watkins
CAVE CITY — Betty Jo Powell Watkins, 74, of Cave City died Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, in Batesville.
Born March 15, 1937, in Ash Flat, she was the daughter of Noel and Beulah Johnson Powell. She was a retired nurse’s aide and a member of Maxville Baptist Church. -
Ethel Pratt
Ethel Mae Pratt, 73, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011.
Born Feb. 4, 1938, she was the daughter of William F. and Gladys Mae Totten Pratt.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Pratt; a sister, Kay Sutterfield; a granddaughter, Shawna Wilson; and two great-grandchildren, Robin Wilson and Jackson Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Robin Lynn Pratt; four brothers, Willie Dean Pratt, Elmer Lee Pratt, Eugene Dale Pratt and Ray Pratt; and a sister, Carol Ann Branscum. -
Billy Noe Jr.
Willie “Billy” Noe Jr., 74, of Batesville died Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, in Batesville.
Born Sept. 11, 1936, in Love, Miss., he was the son of Willie and Helen Douglas Noe. He was retired from International Harvester Inc. in Chicago.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Noe of Hickory Flat, Miss.; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Noe; and two sisters, Ann Davis and Helen Noe. -
Ruby Davidson
Ruby Louise Schultz Davidson, 85, of Batesville died Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, in a Batesville nursing home.
Born Sept. 1, 1925, in Miami, Okla., she was the daughter of Grover Cleveland Schultz and Peggy Anne McAfee Schultz. She enjoyed traveling, music and sewing. She was a member of Surrounded Hill Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. -
Judy Selvidge
NEWPORT — Judy Ann Selvidge, 67, of Newport died Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, in Batesville.
Born July 26, 1944, at Newport, she was the daughter of Tom Marcus and Mable Chaney Selvidge. She was a member of Old Glaise Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed drawing, coloring and sewing.
Survivors include a brother, Marcus Selvidge of Newport; four sisters, Margaret Malone, Virginia Wilson and Clara Breeden, all of Bradford, and Lois Stephens of Dale City, Va.; and several nephews and nieces. -
Emanuel Eugene
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Emanuel C. Eugene, formerly of Batesville, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, in New York, N.Y.
The funeral will be Wednesday in New York. Arrangements are by Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home. -
Body found near Alread – Presumed to be missing man
Authorities say a body found in Van Buren County over the weekend is that of a missing Batesville man.
Barry Treadway, 27, of Broadwater Lane has been missing since July 19.
Skeletal remains were found Saturday, Van Buren County Sheriff Scott Bradley said this morning in a news release. His department secured the area that evening so investigators from his office and the Arkansas State Police could begin work Sunday morning, Bradley said. -
Gilberts to mark 50th anniversary
JONESBORO — Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Gilbert of Jonesboro will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Crowley’s Ridge Room of Holiday Inn, located at 3006 South Caraway Road in Jonesboro.
Janie Whitten of Evening Shade and Jerry Gilbert of Bay were married Aug. 18, 1961, at Nettleton Church of Christ. Jack Lawhon officiated the ceremony.
The reception will be hosted by their daughter, Jerri Jo Winters; Mrs. Gilbert’s sister, Jo Ann Whitten Cushman; and Mr. Gilbert’s sister, Faye Gilbert Oyler. -
Lasey Shea Stephens
Tyler Stephens and Regina McGough of Floral have announced the birth of a daughter at White River Medical Center on Aug. 9, 2011. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and has been named Lasey Shea Stephens.
Grandparents of the child are Mike and Angie McGough, Mary Stephens and David Stephens.
Great-grandparents are Charlene Collins and Ruby Anderson. -
Landon Reid Wilson
Brian and Jennifer Wilson, Shelby and Tristan of Searcy have announced the birth of a son and brother at White River Medical Center on Aug. 9, 2011. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 14.2 ounces and has been named Landon Reid Wilson.
Grandparents of the child are James and Carol Wilson and Randy and Diane Smith.
Great-grandparents are Calvin and Eddylene Holt, the late Jack and Leota Morgan, the late Silas and Maudine Lucas and the late Eddie and Marie Smith.
