Hall earns WBC scholarship
WALNUT RIDGE — Jessica Hall of Cave City has been awarded a President’s Scholarship to attend Williams Baptist College. The scholarship is awarded to incoming WBC students based on their college entrance examination scores.
Hall is a senior at Cave City High School. She is the daughter of David and Shing Hall of Cave City. -
Hays awarded credential
Candace Hays of Batesville has been awarded a child development associate credential for her outstanding work with young children, according to a news release.
“The credential is having a positive effect on the quality of early childhood education and care. Its impact is evident in center-based and home visitor programs as well as family child care,” the release continues.
Hays is employed at the Batesville Early Learning and Enrichment Center.

Woman starts running later in life
SEARCY (AP) — Shirley Ramsey has proven that even folks with more than five decades under their belts can still run 26.22 miles and live to tell the tale.
Ramsey, recorder and treasurer for Pangburn, ran her first marathon at age 54.
“It was the bucket list,” she said. “I always wanted to run a marathon.”
Her inaugural race took place in Chicago in 2007. This particular marathon was infamous for its heat that reached a record 88 degrees, causing the death of one runner and the hospitalization of many more.
But the heat didn’t bother Ramsey. -

Sobriety checkpoints will be established
LITTLE ROCK — State and local law enforcement agencies will work overtime during the coming holiday season to identify and arrest drunk drivers who are on Arkansas streets and highways. The heightened enforcement campaign will begin Monday and continue through Jan. 2.
Sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols will be part of the initiative designed to keep Arkansas roadways safe during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The crackdown is part of the annual “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” campaign. -
Conservation district offers scholarship
Independence County Conservation District is offering a $250 scholarship for a local high school student who will pursue a college degree in agriculture, environmental science or conservation.
The scholarship is part of a statewide education program, Nicholas Steele, chairman of the district, has announced.
The recipient of the district scholarship will be eligible to compete at the area and state levels. -

TJ and Brittany Stroud and Asher of Batesville have announced the birth of a son and brother at White River Medical Center on Dec. 8, 2010. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 13.9 ounces and has been named Kaden Reid Stroud.
Grandparents of the child are Rodney and Sandra Stroud and Todd and Connie Coleman.
Great-grandparents are Kenneth Clark, Josephine Clark, Bill and Jean Mansfield and Jo Stroud and the late Keith Stroud. -

CAVE CITY — Cave City Kiwanis Club will have its regularly scheduled meeting at noon Thursday at Cave City Community Center.
Woodcarver Jeff Ellis will exhibit his work.
The meeting is open to the public.
