Arabella Grace Reding
Josh Reding and Vanessa Baxter of Cave City have announced the birth of a daughter at White River Medical Center on Nov. 8, 2010. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and has been named Arabella Grace Reding.
Grandparents of the child are Andy Baxter, Jeanetta Anderson and Jay and Susie Reding.
Great-grandparents are Marvin and Betsy Kellem, Alfred and Royle Reding, Jolay and Rudye Martinez and David and Ann Baxter. -
Mazie Amanda Dailey
Michael and Jessica Dailey and Trevor of Batesville have announced the birth of a daughter and sister at Harris Hospital in Newport on Nov. 1, 2010. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 7.2 ounces and has been named Mazie Amanda Dailey.
Grandparents of the child are Rodney and Bea Ramsey of Batesville and Bob and Patsy Burks of Lynn. -
Campbells to celebrate wedding anniversary
Don and Elah Campbell will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their family on Thanksgiving Day at the home of their daughter, Denise Arms, in Charlotte.
Elah May Jennings and Donnie Lee Campbell were married Nov. 24, 1960, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Miss., by the Rev. Gene Blailock.
They lived in West Memphis for 44 years before moving to Charlotte five years ago. -
Church to hold chili/soup supper, bake/craft sale
DESHA — Desha United Methodist Church will have its third annual Chili/Soup Supper and Bake and Craft Sale from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets for chili/soup are $6 for adults and $3 for children 6 and under. Chili and soup may also be purchased by the quart. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance from any church member or at Wheeler’s Shoe Repair. Dine-in and carry-out meals will be available.
Crafts for sale will include jewelry, aprons, wreaths and ornaments. Baked goods for sale will include bread, rolls, pies, cakes and cookies. -
Lyon to host Honors Day
Lyon College will host its second fall Honors Day competition of the school year Saturday. More than 100 prospective students and their parents are scheduled to attend.
Open to students accepted at Lyon College and having either a 3.25 grade point average or better or an ACT composite score of 23 or better, Honors Day is a four-part competition that gives prospective students a chance to earn scholarship money including full tuition, room, board, fees and books. Participants are guaranteed an academic scholarship of no less than $6,500 per year. -
Music show will honor vets
HORSESHOE BEND — Saturday’s Music in the Mountains Show will be dedicated to all area veterans and encourages them to attend and be recognized individually in the audience, according to a news release.
The show will be performed especially for the military men and women who currently serve and have served. Songs of the war eras and military-themed songs will be among those performed.
The Hwy 289 Band and guests will welcome guests Denise Gibbons of Hardy, Penny Wolfe of Evening Shade, Roger Norman of Horseshoe Bend, John Paul Baker of Salem and others. -
Free movie screening
Jubilee Family Church in Batesville will host a free drive-in movie at 7 p.m. Friday.
Disney’s “Toy Story 3” will be projected in high definition in the church’s indoor theater setting.

Gourd workshop scheduled
The Batesville Area Arts Council will host a gourd art workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 29 at its art gallery at 246 Main St.
Cost is $35 and Joyce Campbell will lead the class. Cleaned gourds will be available for purchase for those who do not have one.

Thanksgiving service planned
CALICO ROCK — Calico Rock will host the annual Thanksgiving service at 6 p.m. Sunday in the elementary school auditorium. Christmas Child shoeboxes will be sent all over the country and the world to help bless others, a news release states.

Family Violence Prevention recognized more than 24 years of dedication and service on its board from Gayle Silberhorn by presenting her with the 2010 Hands of Empowerment Award at the 21st annual Candlelight Vigil.

Barnett correction
Incorrect information was provided to the Guard concerning the obituary of Dorothy Barnett, which ran in Monday’s edition.
She was born Aug. 18, 1921.
Survivors include two brothers, Ray Brokaw and Vaughn Brokaw.

Ina Lewis
CAVE CITY — Ina Lee Turnbow Lewis, 93, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, in a Cave City nursing home.
Born May 5, 1917, in Jesup, she was the daughter of Charles Luther and Pearl Rudy Turnbow. She was a graduate of Sloan Hendrix. She was united in marriage to W.H. “Dub” Lewis on Nov. 22, 1935, in Smithville. She had resided in Florida, Arizona and New Mexico, where she assisted her husband in operating their welding business. Upon retirement they returned to Arkansas and lived in Lynn for several years before moving to Cave City.
