• Southside recognizes students

    SOUTHSIDE — The Southside School Board recognized several students and heard reports from district principals when it met May 10.
    Art students Ryan Brock, Kyler Bartsh, Blayne Bufford, Dylan McElroy and teacher Leia Parks were recognized along with the junior girls softball team and coach James Housdan. Parent volunteer Larry Lawellin also was honored for his help with the team and support of the district while band director Steve Little and students Tyler Fields and Michael Spinks were recognized for being named to the Mid-South honor band.

    Dorothy M. Addington Tirey, 77, of Batesville died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in Batesville.
    Born Sept. 27, 1932, in Amagon, she was the daughter of Eugene and Nona Honey Addington. She was a homemaker and a member of Believers Community Outreach in Batesville. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and watching soap operas.

  • Polly Henderson

    Polly Jean Pankey Shelton Henderson, 83, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in Batesville.
    Born May 8, 1927, in Batesville, she was the daughter of William Authur and Pauline Pankey. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Buttons and Bows. She was an ambassador for Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce for 25 years.
    Survivors include two sons, Judge Gary Shelton of Little Rock and Dr. Bill Shelton of Batesville; and two grandsons, Ben Shelton of Fayetteville and Dr. Wes Shelton of Bentonville.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Glenn Shelton.

  • Justice, Felts plan to solemnize vows

    Mike and Vickie Justice of Batesville have announced the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Stephanie Justice, to Colby Felts, son of Kevin and Tammy Felts of Cave City.
    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Linda Rolins and the late Richard Rolins.
    She is a 2008 graduate of Cushman High School.
    The prospective groom is the grandson of Roy and Geniave Felts.
    He is a 2004 graduate of Cave City High School.
    The couple will exchange vows at 6 p.m. May 29 at Bethesda Community Center.
    A reception will follow.

    Dr. Dale and Amy Jo Ladd have announced the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashlin Brooke Ladd of Conway, to Jordan Kyle Austin of Conway, son of John Austin and Robin Gay.

  • Students receive scholarships

    CAVE CITY — Several scholarship winners were announced recently by the Cave City School District.
    The Nikki Mendoza Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Amanda Burba. This $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is involved in community service and who is kind, compassionate and outgoing, according to a news release. Mendoza was a former student at the school. Burba has been involved in many service organizations during high school, particularly with the Key Club.

    Calico Rock — The Calico Rock Music Hall will host a return performance of the popular local group, Glad Hearts from the Ozarks at 7 p.m. Saturday.
    Glad Hearts features Billie Bell on doghouse bass and vocals, Kaye Allen on guitar and lead vocals, Joyce Duggins on mandolin, and Bonnie Chandler on banjo.

  • Audubon society to meet

    FAIRFIELD BAY — The Little Red River Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Indian Hills Country Club, 337 Snead Drive, Fairfield Bay. Door prizes will be given.
    Norm Lavers will present the program.
    The society meets the fourth Tuesday of each month except July, August and December. A Dutch treat dinner begins at 5:30 for members and guests.
