Prayer shawl group to meet
BETHESDA — The prayer shawl knitting/crotcheting group meets every Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bethesda Campground Methodist Church. Refreshments are served, and all are welcome, according to Joyce Williams.

OBU names President’s List
ARKADELPHIA — A total of 243 students at Ouachita Baptist University were named to the President’s List for the fall 2009 semester.
To be named to the President’s List, a student must compile a 4.0 grade point average and be classified as a full-time student, with a minimum of 12 academic hours. Those on the list include:

Extreme cold: Tips listed for what to do if stranded
MURFREESBORO — Arkansans still have months of winter weather ahead and should know the ropes to dealing with extreme cold in case of emergencies, said Robbie McKinnon, Pike County Extension agent for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.
“Temperatures in the teens or single digits are uncomfortable,” she said. “But if you’re stranded outside, or without power inside, those low temperatures can be deadly.” -
Couple celebrates 70th wedding anniversary
Alfred and Mattie Rogers celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Jan. 13.
Mattie Mae Layne of the Simstown community and Alfred Edwin Rogers of the Corinth community were united in marriage Jan. 13, 1940, by the Rev. Luther Love, Methodist pastor at Ash Flat and Corinth.
Mr. Rogers’ parents were Dixie and Sarah Ann Estes Rogers. Mrs. Rogers’ parents were Hubert and Martha Hoaney Layne. -
Jasilyn Haven Grace Drouin
Robert and Elnora Drouin and Isaiah of Marcella have announced the birth of a daughter and sister at White River Medical Center on Jan. 20, 2010. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and has been named Jasilyn Haven Grace Drouin.
Grandparents of the child are May Younger, the late Clinton Younger and Mike Drouin.
Great-grandparents are Sid and Sandy Younger and Alvina Drouin. -
Austin Michael Daniel Fraley
Michael and Joni Fraley, Abigail, Kaitlynn and Kayla of Bethesda have announced the birth of a son and brother at Harris Hospital in Newport on Jan. 6, 2010. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 13.4 ounces and has been named Austin Michael Daniel Fraley.
Grandparents of the child are Simon and Jean Calvillo of Newark and Mary Fraley of Southside and the late Dan Fraley.
Great-grandmother is Hazel Thomas of Newark. -

Regino Macario and Alissa Head and Michael have announced the birth of a daughter and sister at White River Medical Center on Jan. 20, 2010. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces and has been named Isabell Alizabeth Head.
