• Man in critical condition after saving dad from fire

    GRISWOLD, Conn. (AP) — A 20-year-old eastern Connecticut man who family members say has saved his father’s life twice in the past year is in critical condition from burns suffered when he pulled his dad out of a burning home.
    Officials say Kyle Landa, of Griswold, saved his quadriplegic father’s life by dragging him out of bed during the weekend while the family home was burning.

  • Free motorcycle leads to arrest

     A Locust Grove man has been charged with theft by receiving after another man reportedly gave him a 2009 Yamaha XT 250 Motorcycle.
    The motorcycle was reported stolen June 1 by Michael Midkiff, who said it was taken from a shed behind his residence on Angela Trail, according to a court affidavit filed by Independence County Sheriff’s Detective Brent Everett.
    On June 11 Everett said he followed up on a tip that the motorcycle was in the area of Johnson Hollow and went there to look for the bike.

    The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville has a new logo beginning today.
    The new logo incorporates the UACCB acronym and a new color scheme expresses a unique, fresh statement providing an updated and clean look, according to a news release.
    “We are excited about the new look and image the new logo portrays,” said Deborah Frazier, chancellor. “The new logo was created through a thoughtful professional development process that started with a branding workshop held in February.”
