DWI, shoplifting arrests made
A Batesville man told police Thursday afternoon he had pulled over to sleep and had not had an accident.
This claim was made even though his car was reportedly on its side in a ditch with the engine running, an outside mirror was broken off, the front bumper had plowed up dirt and one rear tire was several inches off the ground.
Independence County Deputy Patrick Collins said he was dispatched to the accident on Collietown Road around 3:20 p.m. and found 44-year-old Carlin Wade Long, of 25 Knactal Road, passed out inside his 1989 Ford Thunderbird. -

Local veterinarian honored
When 10-year-old Paul Clark’s father was deployed to Iraq last year, Paul had no one to take him fishing.
Dr. Mark Williams immediately stepped in, and that would be just one of many things the local veterinarian would do for the Clark family while National Guard Spc. E-4 Brandon Clark was deployed.
Williams was honored Thursday with a Patriot Award in recognition of “extraordinary support” of the Arkansas National Guard and Reserve.
