Born April 16, 1924, in Amity, she was the daughter of Vernon and Lillie Burchfield Slaughter. She was retired from Memcor Industries in Huntington, Ind., and was a homemaker. She was of the Pentecostal faith. -

Mary Ruth Bryant, 61, of Batesville died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at her home.
Born Feb. 2, 1947, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of John and Mary Church McSpadden. She was a certified nurses aide for Rolling Hills Nursing Center. -

Nancy Wisdom and Dave Branscum were married Feb. 5, 1969, in Newark with Rosemary Williams officiating. -

We now see that we have to protect ourselves from all levels of government. The slightest provocation will result in more taxes. We are in a severe recession, probably not far from a depression, and we can ill afford new taxes. They seem to care more for their institutions than the people who put them there. -

I often wonder about Donna.
Even though she is Donna Fox today, in 1959 she was Donna Ludwig.
But she might have been Donna Valens.
Had he lived.
At 17, Ritchie Valens was the youngest one to die that night following a show at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Along with him, Buddy Holly, J.P. Richardson, "The Big Bopper," and one crew member also died that fateful night 50 years ago Tuesday when their small-engine plane crashed shortly after take-off. -
Icy ‘blessing’ Families, electrical crews find shelter at Quail Valley
Penelope Kourakis had heard the expression "he would give the shirt off his back," but it never seemed to be anything more than an expression.
That was until Friday when Chris Chandler, of John 3:16 Ministries, gave her his sweatshirt because she was cold inside the Quail Valley Free Will Baptist Church gymnasium.
