Fire damages historical Main Street building
Just how the fire started at 101 West Main Street Friday afternoon is still under investigation, according to Brent Gleghorn.
Gleghorn, who was on vacation when his pager went off around 4:52 p.m., said there was about five minutes left in a football game. -
BHS earns all-state first in v-ball
Batesville Lady Pioneer Rachel Shellenberger added to her all-state honors and gave Batesville High a first.
The junior was recently named to the Class 5A All-State team for volleyball – a first for the school. -
Cave City doubles up on v-ball first
The Cave City Cavewomen earned recognition at the state level for the first time in volleyball this year with two all-state selections.
They are represented by Rebekah Roebuck and Heather Tate. Both have been previously recognized by the district. -

Betty Ann "Lorene" Reynolds Pool, 80, of New Boston, Texas, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, in Texarkana, Texas.
A private graveside service was held today at Lee's Chapel Cemetery in Sandtown with J.W. Roach officiating. -

JACKSONVILLE – Leslie C. Simmons, 72, of Jacksonville died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, in a Little Rock hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Willis Funeral Service of Batesville. -
Donald Johnson
Donald Keith Johnson, 73, of Batesville died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, in a Batesville hospital.
Born April 27, 1935, he was the son of Robert Lawson and Nola Altha Johnson. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a barber in Batesville for many years. He was a Mason and of the Christian faith. -
Freda Lashley
EVENING SHADE – Freda F. Lashley, 76, of Evening Shade died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, in a Batesville hospital.
Born July 17, 1932, at Eugene, Mo., she was the daughter of Woodrow and Birdie Emmerich Guinnip. She was a licensed nurse and a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Evening Shade. -
Hastings, Daniel wed
ROGERS – Jessica Leigh Hastings and Jason Glen Daniel were united in marriage Saturday at the Chapel on the Creeks in Rogers.
The Rev. Mike Felder officiated.
The bride is the daughter of David and Rhonda Hastings of Vilonia and David and Rebecca Smith of Greenbrier. -
